KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF NURSES TOWARDS...

ABSTRACT: This research was carried out to determine the knowledge and attitude of the nurses towards the use of nursing process as a tool for individualized care in General Hospital. The aims of the study is to assess the level of utilization, factors affecting the use, knowledge and attitude of nurses and measure to improve the use of nursing process in the medical wards of General Hospital Ilorin. The significant of the study is to improve the quality care rendered to patient. The study was descriptive research. The population was all the nurses of General Hospital Ilorin. Forty nurses were randomly selected and the analysis of the result was done based the data gathered from the respondents using frequency table and chi-square. The study revealed that the level of utilization of nursing process in medical wards was low. The study therefore concluded that nurses should be taught the importance of using equipped with skills needed to use the nursing process in care giving and also nurses should be encouraged to use internet facilities and participate in nursing research so as to keep in trend with changing nursing practice. It was recommended that nurses should be adequately equipped with skill needed for the nurses on nursing process and nursing should also be allowed to be going for seminars and workshops to upgrade their knowledge. The hospital management should ensure the use of North America Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA) list and it should be available in each ward, nurses should be taking and handing over with nursing process and nursing manager should always inspect the patient file or nursing process/nursing care plan as this encourages the nurse to use it efficiently. The government should ensure adequate provision of stationeries and professional nurses to reduce workload on the present nurses in each ward.
